This paper focuses on the importance of the preparatory course for taking up the qualifying examination in free‐hand drawing. It considers the significance of mastering graphic work methods and influence specific developed capabilities on a variety of achievements of candidates during the preparatory course and, in the end, the success of the qualification examination itself. A special attention is paid to the results of the attendance at the preparatory classes and the success of candidates at the qualifying examination. The influence of the developed specific capabilities within secondary education on the success achieved during attendance at the preparatory classes and the success in the qualification examination in free‐hand drawing has been analyzed. The authors prove two hypotheses. The first one is that the candidates who have attended preparatory classes in free‐hand drawing achieve better results, and the other one is that candidates, who mastered the methods of graphic work in the secondary education, achieve better results. In addition to the above mentioned, this research opens up several new research topics.
